Troop Builder Reimagined

Since the dawn of Star Wars figures, the Empire has benefited from helmeted soldiers resulting in an ideal troop builder. While Rebel soldiers have always been offered in the line, there was always a disconnect to seeing the same face duplicated over and over in a squadron. To alleviate this in the past has required multiple figure releases with partial variations in tooling. When designing the Hoth Rebel trooper for the 40th anniversary, I wanted to deliver a figure that could serve as a visually unique soldier with each purchase. To accomplish this, the design was broken up to support three categories of variation, portrait, gear, and armory. The Hoth Rebel trooper consists of two alternate faces (one of which can be stowed inside of the backpack while not in use, as well as a set of goggles and a scarf that can be utilized in multiple orientations. Lastly, the character is equipped with a holsterable DC-17 and an A280C rifle.

Black Series 6” Figures

During my time on the Star Wars team, I had the opportunity to design and oversee the fan-oriented segments. My responsibilities included generating and managing our line plan, which would divide our allocated tooling budget throughout the year. The array of characters would require a selection of newly tooled figures, with a balance of partials, redecos, and package refreshes. I would carry each of these figures through production and was responsible for kick-off, input, sculpt approval, generating deco, and managing development through manufacturing. In addition to my traditional duties, I was also responsible for continued communication with LFL and maintaining our relationship with the licensor.

Below Is a selection of characters that I designed during the time that I supported the Black Series figure segment.
