Retro Collection
The Retro collection was a concept that came to fruition as part of a design challenge targeted toward new opportunities for our fan segments. The original concept was to utilize the styling established under the original Kenner toyline from 1977, and skin that aesthetic towards modern entertainment. Wave 1 was built out to celebrate the original Star Wars figure expression, while Wave 2 was used as an anniversary line to support the 40th anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back. Over the years, the line has grown to fully embrace the original concept and has been utilized to support The Mandalorian Season 1 and Season 2 along with the Obiwan Kenobi series on Disney+.
Something Old, Something New
The line launched with 6 preexisting figure designs but utilized our games division to pair a never before released Grand Moff Tarkin figure with a historic “Star Wars Escape from the Deathstar” board game. The line presented a unique challenge for our sculptors, as it required them to intentionally sculpt them to look “shitty”. The all-new Tarkin figure needed to be sculpted to fit in with the existing figures while maintaining a glimpse of likeness resemblence to Peter Cushing..
